Removal of Andrew Drilling Derrick and Articulated Arm
Engineering, Preparation, Removal, and Disposal of the Andrew Drilling Derrick and Articulated Arm in the UK sector of the North Sea.
The scope of work for this project involved removing all mechanical elements necessary to enable the safe deployment of rigging and lifting by Heerema Marine Contractors’ Sleipnir semi-submersible crane and vessel. A large volume of steelwork, redundant equipment, and stairways/walkways were removed prior to the installation of four main lift points on the derrick structure and additional rigging on the articulated services arm.
The Andrew oilfield is a hydrocarbon field in the UK sector of the North Sea, 230 kilometres (140 mi) northeast of Aberdeen and it is operated by BP.
There was a short timeline from contract award to offshore execution, with engineering completed between our Aberdeen and Oslo team. The derrick was then removed by HMC and transported to AF Environmental Base Vats for safe dismantling and recycling of the structure.
