Oslo's new landmark building
It was AF's previous experience with cultural buildings that secured the two furnishing and interior works contracts in one of Oslo's new landmark buildings. The new main library housing 400,000 books on its shelves will be completed in 2020.
The library building will be a compact building that meets the passive building standard, spans five storeys and has a full cellar. The architectonic concept is based around the large, central, continuous library room that stretches up through the storeys and the project has set itself the goal of being the most environmentally friendly cultural building in Norway.
The library has been designed for varied activities such as learning, experiences, debates, own production and research. It will be a distinctive building, noted for its energy efficiency, the use of new ICT solutions and the development of a new type of library space.
